We are very passionate about what goes into our fragrances, that means we also pay very close attention to what we leave out.
So, when we are asked “Are your products clean?” our answer is yes.
We aren’t interested in being trendy, but we are interested in providing you products that are beautiful, well-crafted and of high quality, products integrity and craftsmanship you can trust.
With one of the founders being a pharmacist, we bring a science-based lens to everything we do, and that includes making sure our fragrances are free from unnecessary or potentially harmful ingredients—often referred to in the industry as “nasties.”
So, what are these so-called nasties and why do we avoid them as best as we can?
❌ Parabens
Used as preservatives in some cosmetics, parabens have raised concerns due to their potential to mimic estrogen in the body. While the science continues to evolve, we choose not to include them in any of our fragrances.
❌ Phthalates
These are sometimes used to make fragrances last longer, but certain types have been linked to hormonal disruptions. Specifically, diethyl phthalate (DEP) was once commonly used in fragrances to stabilize scent profiles. At UULA we’ve chosen to stay phthalate-free.
❌ Endocrine Disruptors
These are ingredients that may interfere with the body’s hormonal systems. Our formulations are assessed with this firmly in mind. None of the 18 substances identified by the European Commission as known endocrine disruptors are used in our fragrances.
Compliance to strict guidelines from governing bodies
Materials used in our fragrances have also been assessed by reputable agencies including the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to ensure compliance and safety.
Our fragrances are crafted in line with IFRA 51 guidelines (International Fragrance Association). IFRA sets the global standard for fragrance safety, limiting or prohibiting materials based on rigorous scientific reviews.
Your responsibility
Whilst we adhere to strict guidelines and practices and do our best to provide you the best experience with our fragrances that we can, we can’t control external factors which may be specific to you. So, if you are particularly sensitive or allergic to certain ingredients, please review our label carefully and do a patch test before using the fragrance. If you are pregnant or lactating, we would strongly suggest that you stay away from ALL fragrances until baby has been born and weaned.
